How to edit a PDF with AI commands
Use natural-language instructions for PDF text edits, formatting, highlights and page changes, then review the proposal before applying.
Start with one clear request
Open a PDF, open the blue AI chat bubble and choose New Chat. Describe the target and result: “Replace every mention of John Doe with Ann Hue” is more precise than “fix the names.”
Combine related changes
You can request a summary page, page deletions, text formatting and highlights in one message. Specify page positions from the original document. Formatting is applied to surviving pages when the same proposal deletes others.
Review and apply
The assistant proposes changes and shows the credit cost. Click Apply if the proposal is right, or Cancel if it is not. You do not need to type a separate confirmation phrase. Use See changes to inspect the affected locations and Undo to reverse the latest edit.
Know the limits
Scanned text is not directly editable. PDF text lives in positioned boxes, so font changes may need automatic fitting to avoid overlaps. Requests involving unreadable or very large documents can still require a narrower scope.
Credits and downloads
Free users receive 50 starter AI credits. Premium includes 500 credits per month and Ultra includes 2,000. Sol and Astra show a token-based quote before generation and charge for replies, including replies without edits. Check the displayed cost before continuing. Downloading edits to existing text requires a paid plan.
Three prompts you can adapt
- Text correction: “On page 2, change the delivery date from 12 October to 19 October. Leave every other date unchanged.”
- Formatting: “Change the body text to Times New Roman, 12 pt. Keep headings at their current sizes. Do not change the wording.” If it cannot fit, use a smaller size or a narrower scope.
- Invoice edit: “Change the Notebook quantity to 1. Recalculate that row, subtotal, tax and grand total using the rates shown in the document. List every value you changed.” Verify the arithmetic yourself before using the result.
Keep review on for consequential edits
Leave Auto-apply off when changing amounts, contract wording or personal information. Use Highlight changes to step through the proposal, and compare each affected location with the request. After applying, inspect the result with See changes. An AI reply saying that a job is complete is not a substitute for checking the actual PDF and its exported copy.
What the assistant receives
AI requests share extracted document text, form values and attached references with OpenAI. Image-only pages, unreadable text and document limits can leave gaps in that context. If the assistant reports missing material, narrow the request or provide the relevant content rather than assuming it reviewed everything. Do not attach documents you are not authorized to share.
