Why this happens

JPG is broadly compatible and often suitable for photos. PNG is a better choice when transparent areas need to remain transparent.

What to try first

Decide based on the content and the receiving application, not just the filename extension. Review file size and appearance after conversion.

Try it on a fresh copy

  1. Choose the WebP image and check whether it contains transparent areas.
  2. Convert and download the JPG. Transparent regions are filled with white.
  3. Open the saved copy and check the background. Use PNG instead if transparency needs to survive.

How to tell whether it worked

Check backgrounds and small details in the new file before uploading it elsewhere.
