How to convert PDF text to PowerPoint

A step-by-step guide to convert PDF text to PowerPoint, with advice on the settings and checks that matter.

Before you start

Use a PDF containing extractable text. This conversion creates text slides; original page graphics and layouts are not preserved.

How to do it, step by step

  1. Open a PDF with text you want to reuse in a presentation.
  2. Convert it and download the PPTX. This workflow extracts text rather than recreating the original visual design.
  3. Open the presentation and organize the text into slide titles and shorter points. Add illustrations separately.

Check the saved file

Open the PPTX and arrange slide titles, body text and visuals for presentation.

PDF to PowerPoint: editable text or page images?

Text extraction provides editable content but does not reproduce the original slide design. Page images preserve appearance but are not editable text. Choose text conversion when rewriting the presentation. Export PDF pages to PNG if preserving their appearance is more important, then place those images in slides.
