How to convert WebP to JPG

A step-by-step guide to convert WebP to JPG, with advice on the settings and checks that matter.

Before you start

Use JPG for a destination that does not accept WebP. Transparent areas will be filled with white.

How to do it, step by step

  1. Choose the WebP image and check whether it contains transparent areas.
  2. Convert and download the JPG. Transparent regions are filled with white.
  3. Open the saved copy and check the background. Use PNG instead if transparency needs to survive.

Check the saved file

Check backgrounds and small details in the new file before uploading it elsewhere.

Choose PNG or JPG when replacing WebP

JPG is broadly compatible and often suitable for photos. PNG is a better choice when transparent areas need to remain transparent. Decide based on the content and the receiving application, not just the filename extension. Review file size and appearance after conversion.
