How to rotate PDF pages for reading
A step-by-step guide to rotate PDF pages for reading, with advice on the settings and checks that matter.
Before you start
Check whether the content is sideways or upside down and choose the appropriate rotation. Work from an original copy.
How to do it, step by step
- Open the PDF and check which way the page needs to turn.
- Choose the appropriate rotation and process the document.
- Download and reopen the new PDF. This checks the saved orientation, not just a temporary rotation in your viewer.
Check the saved file
Open the result in a PDF viewer and check its orientation without relying on the viewer’s temporary rotate button.
Permanent PDF rotation versus viewer rotation
A viewer can rotate your display without changing the saved PDF. A recipient may therefore still see the old orientation. Download the rotated document and reopen that new file. If only some pages need rotation, check the available selection before applying a document-wide setting.
