Resize or crop an image?
Resizing changes pixel dimensions across the whole picture. Cropping removes part of the frame, changing the composition or aspect ratio.
Why this happens
Resizing changes pixel dimensions across the whole picture. Cropping removes part of the frame, changing the composition or aspect ratio.
What to try first
Crop first to establish the final shape, then resize to the target dimensions. Avoid enlarging small originals when detail matters.
Try it on a fresh copy
- Open the image and choose whether to resize by percentage or by exact pixel dimensions.
- Enter the new width or height. Keep proportions linked to avoid stretching faces, logos or lettering.
- Choose the output format, save a copy, and check its dimensions before uploading it elsewhere.
How to tell whether it worked
Verify the saved image dimensions. A website that asks for 1200 pixels means pixel width, not the file size in kilobytes.
