Why a PNG gets a white background as JPG
PNG can store transparency; JPEG cannot. Converting to JPG requires filling those transparent regions with an opaque color.
Why this happens
PNG can store transparency; JPEG cannot. Converting to JPG requires filling those transparent regions with an opaque color.
What to try first
Keep PNG when you need a transparent logo. Use JPG for photographs or destinations that require it, and review the flattened background before sharing.
Try it on a fresh copy
- Choose the PNG you need in JPEG format. JPG and JPEG mean the same format.
- Convert and download the JPG. Transparent areas need an opaque background because JPEG cannot store transparency.
- Inspect logos, small text and the background. Keep the PNG if transparent edges are important.
How to tell whether it worked
Check the background and fine edges in the downloaded JPG.
