How to transcribe voice and audio to text

Record or upload a supported file, wait for transcription and review the text.

Step by step

  1. Choose a recording or upload an audio file. For live recording, allow microphone access when your browser asks.
  2. Speak clearly or wait for the uploaded audio to finish transcribing. The first local transcription can take longer while its model downloads.
  3. Read the transcript while listening to uncertain passages. Correct names, dates and numbers before copying the text.

Before you share the result

Review names, dates, amounts and punctuation against the recording. Speech recognition can produce plausible but incorrect words.

Frequently asked questions

Does Voice to Text require Premium?

A free account includes unlimited standard downloads. You can use Edit Text before subscribing, but exporting a document with changes to existing PDF text requires Premium. Premium costs $8 monthly or $48 yearly.

Can I record or upload audio?

Yes. Allow microphone access to speak live, or upload a common audio file or MP4 video such as MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, WebM or MP4 to create editable text.

Does it support every browser?

Live speech recognition is available in current Chrome, Edge and some Safari versions. Uploaded-audio or MP4 transcription downloads a small browser model on first use, so it may take longer initially.
